Nia took to Instagram on Thursday (September 21) to explain why she lost her WGA health insurance.
“My Writers Guild health coverage was canceled today. So fellow writers, I’m thinking that yours was probably canceled too or will be soon. And fellow actors, you’re probably next,” she said.
Nia went on to clarify that her health insurance was not canceled because her film My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 was released in theaters during the strike.
“The cast and I followed every strike rule, we are in solidarity with our unions, we did everything right,” she wrote.
Nia explained that the loss of her health insurance was due to other factors. She ended her post with an appeal for help from others involved with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
“My insurance ran out because writers need better coverage,” she wrote. “I think I have answered every question that came my way. But @officialfrandrescher @wgawest @wgaeast @sagaftra when are we going to pull together a benefit for others who lost their health insurance, their incomes and are in need? Crews, writers, stylists, directors, producers, actors are without an income. Let’s raise some money and help people. Contact me. You can find me right here or on the strike line.”
