DHHR To Issue Summer Benefits
With the federal COVID-19 public health emergency ending, West Virginia will issue Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) to qualifying K-12 students over the summer. This will be the final payment with CARES funds.
COVID-19 Pandemic Wanes But Fight Continues
The COVID-19 pandemic may seem to be a thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean the fight against it is over. Since last week, 16 West Virginians died from COVID-19. The nationwide average is 225 deaths a week. The West Virginia death total since the beginning of the pandemic is 8,083.
W.Va. COVID-19 Deaths Pass 8,000 Mark
That number is higher than the population of eight counties in the state, according to U.S. Census data. That includes Wirt, Pendleton, Calhoun, Tucker, Gilmour, Pleasants, Doddridge and Pocahontas counties. CDC data indicates more than 2,600 people in the state have died from the virus on average per year.
Lawmakers Move To Clarify W.Va. Abortion Ban
Senate Bill 552 replaces language that referenced “physician” and replaced it with “licensed medical professional.” It also includes language that would revoke a licensed medical professional’s license if they willingly violate the bill by performing an abortion outside of the parameters set in the bill.
